GUPPY
INTRO TO SWIMMING:
This gentle introduction to swimming is designed for children ages 6–18 months and their parent or guardian. At this stage, the adult is the primary student, learning how to safely and confidently support their baby in the water while encouraging exploration and comfort.
Each child must be accompanied by one adult (18 years or older) in the pool during every class. With an emphasis on fun, bonding, and safety, this class guides both parent and child through playful water activities that promote early swim readiness and water familiarity. Special focus is placed on building comfort with back floating and body position.
Skills explored and practiced include:
- Getting wet through toys and splashing
- Gentle in-water exploration of the pool environment (ladders, skimmers, depth markers)
- Entering and exiting the pool safely (adult lifts child in and out)
- Wall holds: encouraging children to hold onto the pool edge with support
- Breath control: blowing bubbles on the surface and submerging mouth, nose, and eyes
- Supported floating and gliding:
- Front float and front glide with support
- Back float and back glide with support
- Alternating leg kicks on both front and back while supported
- Reaching for toys underwater while developing comfort with submersion
- Kicking play to encourage movement and engagement in the water
This level provides a gentle foundation for future swimming success, helping your child grow comfortable in and around the water while you learn techniques to support their aquatic development.
